30 Things I have Learned in 30 years

Since my last post was a little more on the ranty side, here is a more light hearted little number for you all.

As my 31st birthday rapidly approaches here are 30 things I have learned in my 30 years:

  1. My mum was right about pretty much everything. Apart from the fact that brownies are gross, because it is a well known fact that they are not.
  2. Keep your sugar and salt marked very clearly, and very far away from each other. This will prevent any disturbing coffee traumas.
  3. Take your make up off before bed. Your skin will thank you.
  4. Do not kick a curb in a fit of rage when you miss your bus. You will not win in a fight against concrete.
  5. Lashings of butter should be added to mash potato. Otherwise it tastes like sadness. You also cannot cheat and make mash in a blender. You will get wall paper paste.Mash Potato
  6. Drink lots of water. Especially if you are going out boozing.
  7. Also, in relation to above. Eating is NOT cheating. Have some bloody dinner before you go out.
  8. Do not put furniture polish on your wooden flooring, unless you are trying to make it into an ice-skating rink.
  9. Cook rice on a low heat. This will prevent you destroying every pan you own.
  10. Do not cut your own hair. Unless you are a hairdresser. Or a small child.
  11. Take your hands out of doors/drawers/cupboards/gates before closing them.
  12. Skiing is like playing Russian Roulette. At some point it will literally break you. For me, it was emotionally.Me Skiing
  13. Sudocreme is magic. For everything. Apart from on your toast.
  14. Broccoli does taste better when you are an adult. This is why your mum made you eat it as a kid. Oh that, and it’s good for you.
  15. Making it “rain” in your own house with prawn crackers will come with it’s regrets the next day.
  16. Do not check your electric hob is on by touching it. This will remove your finger prints.
  17. At home waxing is a stupid idea. Don’t even bother. Get a professional to do it for you. Unless you enjoy being covered in sticky lumps of your own hair and tears.
  18. Being kind is a simple, yet stupendously effective thing. It will also make you feel awesome when you do something good for someone else.
  19. Cheap raincoats are a waste of time.
  20. Microwave popcorn can and will catch fire if you take your eye off the microwave for a second.
  21. Primark leggings should not ever be worn as trousers, they are see-through. I can see your pants.
  22. Do not buy smart price/essentials/the cheapest bin bags. Your rubbish will leak, and you will say some curse words.
  23. Take a minute before responding to something that has made you angry. You cant take back words once they have been said.
  24. Shots are never a good idea.kermit-1651325_1920
  25. To get rid of hiccups, take the deepest breathe you can and hold it for as long as you can. Until you feel like you might pop. Start breathing again before you pass out though eh?
  26. Time will legitimately go faster as you get older. That or I am being abducted by aliens. Repeatedly.
  27. Cacao and Chia seed pudding does not taste like chocolate mousse. Anyone claiming this is a liar.
  28. Don’t worry too much about how you look in a swimming costume. Chance is everyone else at the pool is too busy worrying about themselves too much to even notice you.
  29. Check the chair is actually behind you before you sit on it.
  30. Throw your hands in the air, wave them like you just don’t care. But be cautious of people around you because you might punch a drink out of their hand or them in the face. My bad.

Christmas Tag

It’s the most wonderful time of the yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeear!

This year I feel super Christmassy for some reason, and so in order to celebrate and indulge in a bit of festive fun here is the Christmas Tag! Thank you to Lola from Lolas Little Wonders for the list of questions!

What is your favourite Christmas Movie?

Santa Claus The Movie. No question about it! It was actually the first movie that my parents saw after I was born (first trip out sans bambino). I have to watch it every year. It is the law. Otherwise the world my implode.

Santa Claus The Movie

I am also a massive fan of The Polar Express. Oh that film gives me all the warm and fuzzies.

Do you open presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Morning?

Christmas Morning durr… how can you open presents before Father Christmas has been? Silly question…

Christmas Tree on Christmas Morning

Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?

Oh there are hundreds and hundreds, but generally sitting around the table with my family oh Christmas day eating dinner. Throwing Christmas cracker rubbish on the floor.

What is your favourite festive food?

My mum’s Christmas pudding! It is the best! And of course pigs in blankets.. om nom nom…

This is too hard! I always got amazing gifts. I cannot think of one alone! A few years ago my mum got to get 2 kittens, that was my favourite present she ever got 😉

Christmas Present

What is your favourite Christmas scent?

Christmas trees. The smell of pine is lush! Mulled wine is also pretty good 😉

Nothing at the moment – I have bought 2 and both are too heavy for the tree! WAH!

Christmas Bauble

As a kid what was one crazy gift you always asked for but never received?

Mr Frosty. (is such fun, he makes drinks for everyone). As an adult I now realise that my mother did not want me filled with sugar ice water… probably for the best.

What is the best part about Christmas for you?

Family. Giving presents to people, I love buying presents for people and finding that perfect gift. I often go way over my budget but it is so worth it!

#findthehappy

It has been quite a while since we have had one of these! I have let things slide! In case you need reminding, #findthehappy is where I look back on the week that has been and find 5 things that have made me happy that week. The idea being that I will have something to look back on through the #findthehappy tag that I can see to remind me of happy times.

So here we go.. back in business…

FIND THE HAPPY – Monday 2nd November 2015 – Sunday 8th November 2015

Happy #1: Technically this would have been the previous week, however the 1st November saw one whole year since I quit smoking! I cannot say it has always been easy, but it was certainly easier to quit than I thought it would be. I feel very proud of myself, stupid for having ever started, and pleased that it is all over and done with. I do not have any desire to start again, I do not miss it at all.

Happy #2: On Tuesday I went to go and see Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Theatre Royal Brighton with Jo. It is one of our favourite films and we have been desperate to see the show since we saw it was on a couple of years ago. Lucky for us another tour was doing the rounds so on Tuesday we met after work. We had Wagamamas for dinner (YUM) and then went to go and watch the show. It was so good, 3 glasses of wine and all that glitter… goodness… I cannot begin to explain the joy.

Happy #3: On Friday we enjoyed a really delicious dinner with our friends Angie and Dan at their flat. We were joined by their flatmate Christa and also Jo and Ed. It was nice to have a very civilised dinner over a glass of wine. Thank you for inviting us! :)

Happy #4: I saw these in the window of a shop when we popped past Poole on our way back from Portland in October. I just had to have them! They are the comfiest things I have ever put on my feet as they have memory foam insoles. It is like walking on clouds. And I mean… look at them…

Rainbow Sketchers

Happy #5: On Sunday my closest family all gathered to celebrate the 50th Birthday of my aunts. We enjoyed a very delicious 3-course meal at the Ashdown Park Hotel. We had canapes and Pimms to start, the meal, and then cake and coffee. It was wonderful and we had a really lovely time! Happy Birthday Lisa and Joanne! :)

Autumn Tag

What do you like most about autumn?
I love crunchy leaves, cold crisp days, being able to light candles and get snuggled up under a blanket. Autumn is cosy
What do you like the least about autumn?
Temperamental weather. Windy and rain. They take the crisp out of what I like about Autumn!

Which is your favourite piece of clothes in this season?
Boots. Always boots. I am excited to crack out my Uggs again. My toes are always thankful when the temperature drops! Super snuggly fleecy toe time, yippee!!

What is it, that you always buy in autumn?
Socks, pyjamas, anything furry or fuzzy that I can wear to get cosy. I own far too many dressing gowns, fluffy jumpers and blankets.

Which is that event or occasion, what you wait the best in this autumn?
My birthday. Big one this year! Oh!

Which fragrances do you like in autumn?
Roasting pumpkin seeds in the oven at Halloween. Best part of making jack-o-laterns.
Which is your favourite hot drink?
Hot chocolate. Ideally from Cafe Nero. So good.
Which is your favourite autumn food?
Casseroles or stews. Something with some root vegetables and beef in gravy. No dumplings though.

Do you wear scarf inside?
Sometimes, usually because I am either trying to be cool, or I forgot to take it off.
The inspiration for this post came from Regina from the blog Pretty Happiness and thought I would continue the tag! Please go over and check out her lovely blog! Thank you so much to Regina for kindly sharing <3
